About whois.me.uk

Domain intelligence, made clear: registry, DNS, email-authentication, web and reputation checks written for people who run domains in the UK.

Who runs it

whois.me.uk is a service of The Email Shop Ltd, a UK company (number 16879797) registered in England and Wales, with its registered office at 8 Brookdale Drive, Littleover, Derby, DE23 3YY and its trading address at Suite 16-17, Parker House, Mansfield Road, Derby, DE21 4SZ. The Email Shop registers domains and hosts email and websites for UK businesses; this site grew out of the questions those customers ask: is my domain about to expire, why does my mail land in spam, who is really hosting this site.

What it does, and does not do

Every result comes from the primary source at the moment you ask: registries over RDAP and WHOIS, the domain's own nameservers, its mail servers over SMTP, its web server over HTTPS, and the blocklists themselves. Nothing is guessed from a stale database. When a registry withholds details, the page says so rather than filling the gap from elsewhere.

Results are shown as Findings: what we saw, why it matters and how to fix it, each with a stable code that links to a fix guide. Scores and grades follow the published rubrics, so two people looking at the same domain get the same answer for the same reason.

The site does not sell domains and does not process payments for them; free names hand off to The Email Shop. It does not harvest registry data in bulk, and it never sends a message from your domain or to your users.

Where checks run from

Pages are served from a UK server. Active checks that need a clean network view, such as ping, traceroute, SMTP conversations and the resolver panel, run from our London probe, so what you see is what a UK sender or visitor would see.

Data and privacy

The data sources page lists every registry, list and service the site relies on and the terms they publish. The privacy notice covers what is kept: snapshots of public records for the Domain Timeline, and a daily-rotated hash of your address for allowances. Header decoding and DMARC report analysis happen in memory and are discarded. Domain owners can ask for a name to be removed from indexing.

Uptime and openness

Our own health is public on the status page, and the changelog lists what has shipped. Every permalink answers as JSON, and the API uses the same engines as the pages.
