CNAME at the zone apex

What it means

RFC 1034 forbids a CNAME alongside other records at the same name. The apex must carry SOA and NS records, so a CNAME there breaks resolution on many servers.

How to fix it

  1. 1Replace the apex CNAME with A/AAAA records, or use your DNS provider's ALIAS/ANAME flattening feature.

Re-check after the change

DNS changes can take up to the record's TTL to be seen; use Re-run on the result page to bypass our 10-minute cache.
