Could not talk SMTP to the mail server

What it means

The MX host did not answer on port 25, refused the connection, or rejected the probe before any recipient was named (for example because of sender verification or an IP reputation filter).

How to fix it

  1. 1Check the MX host is listening on port 25 and not firewalled from the internet.
  2. 2If the server verifies senders, that is expected; the mailbox is simply not checkable from outside.

Re-check after the change

DNS changes can take up to the record's TTL to be seen; use Re-run on the result page to bypass our 10-minute cache.
