Open relay test

Does your mail server accept mail for other domains? Owners only.

What this check does

Talks SMTP to each MX host and tries a recipient at an unrelated domain. An accepted RCPT means an open relay that spammers will find within hours. Because it sends commands to your server, the test is only available after you verify domain ownership with a TXT record.

  • Every MX host tested from the London probe
  • MAIL FROM, RCPT TO a foreign address, QUIT; never DATA
